In October, Salmagundi Club, one of America’s oldest art organizations, hosted the their annual American Masters Exhibition & Sale, marking the exhibition's 10th anniversary. The event also celebrated the recent $1.5 million renovation and restoration of the Club’s Upper Gallery space. Sales from prior American Masters exhibitions initiated significant funding for the renovation project, along with major gifts from the Manton Foundation and a matching grant from the New York State Dormitory Authority. Thanks to contributions of great American artists, benefactors and art enthusiasts this unique organization remains an important and vibrant part of American art culture.
The show featured paintings CELLIST and MICHELLE, generously on loan from two private collectors, as part of the tribute to eight living legends who have been an integral part of American Masters through the years: Richard Schmid, Douglas Allen, Max Ginsburg, Daniel E. Greene, Everett Raymond Kinstler, David A Leffel, Burton Silverman and John Stobart. All in all, works from 70 American artists made up this spectacular exhibition at the Salmagundi Club's historic 1853 brownstone on Fifth Avenue.
