excellence in fine art education
ATLANTA, GEORGIA ~ APRIL 22, 2017
The Excellence in Fine Art Education Award was presented to teacher, painter, and author, Richard Schmid. Influencing thousands of artists and art students throughout the United Sates and abroad, Richard’s commitment to fine art education and painting in the traditional realist manner has distinguished him as one of America’s greatest contemporary painters. Throughout his career, Schmid has generously shared his knowledge through his publications and his mentoring of young artists. He continues to promote art education through his books, articles and demonstrations.
The Excellence in Fine Art Education Award was established in 2002, and is among the one of highest honors the organization confers, recognizing the indispensable contributions of museums, foundations, patrons, art schools, ateliers and artists that support the teaching and encouragement of artists seeking to work in the realist tradition. Previous recipients have been the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, National Academy of Design, Lyme Academy, Florence Academy, Rockwell Museum, The Barnes Foundation, New York Academy of Art and last year the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation.
According to Edward Jonas, Co-Found and Chair of the Portrait Society of America, "Representational Realism flourishes today and into the twenty-first century because of the dedication of accomplished and seasoned masters, such as Richard Schmid, to teaching and mentoring a new generation of rising artists. Such unselfish sharing of wisdom and vision should not only be heralded but also recognized. It is in this spirit the Portrait Society of America presented Richard with its 2017 Excellence in Fine Art Education award.
Richard Schmid was honored to receive this momentous award.
